Sensory Trail
Sensory play is very important for all children. It can help with language development, fine motor skills, imagination play, cognitive growth, problem-solving, and so much more. The sensory trail is a crucial part of our program. We are going to be helping the child engage their five senses (sight, smell, hearing, touch, and taste). Walking on the wooded path will help them explore and discover new sights and sounds.
We are very grateful that we have such a great support system in our community. We met the Love family two years ago when we acquired our donkey Toretto. The family knew what we were trying to do for our local community and wanted to help. Johnathan, their son, has stepped up and is building our sensory trail for his Eagle Scout Project. An Eagle Scout project must benefit the community and provide life experience for Johnathan in the future. Johnathan must demonstrate leadership by engaging other members of his troop, fundraising to help the project, and utilizing time management skills, financial planning, and carpentry skills.
This Trail will benefit our community by allowing children to explore the path and allowing their therapist to come and help reach the child’s goals. Johnathan has several ideas on how to include all 5 senses on the trail and provide a safe place for children to learn and explore.
